One of Queensland’s most lucrative tourism contracts is up for grabs.
Star Entertainment will today invite bids to furnish the Queen’s Wharf casino resort in a contract that could be worth up to $50 million.
The tender will cover furniture and equipment for three hotels and resorts as well as ballrooms, event centres, gaming floors, restaurants and the spectacular Sky Deck.
The project will require 1600 beds, almost 5000 chairs and more than 4500 tables from office to fine dining with the total inventory enough to fit out the Brisbane W Hotel five times.
It’s another landmark on the timeline for the $3.6 billion project, which is expected to open in late 2022. Manufacture of the furniture would start next year with installation from early 2022.
Destination Brisbane Consortium project director Simon Crooks said it was an exciting milestone for the development, which will redefine the city skyline.
“At a time when this city, this country, needs investment and development to get the economy going again, we are on time and on budget with the most transformational project the Brisbane CBD has seen,” he said. “Going to tender for the furniture brings the reality of this development into even sharper focus and highlights how close we’re getting to that planned opening in late 2022.”
There are 400 people working on site, and that will increase to 2000 next year.
